Abstract
Frank Lloyd Wright, America’s most prominent architect of the 20th century, defied centuries-old styles in order to create original American architecture. Acting as the architect and interior designer, Wright aimed for cohesive designs that were tailored to the needs and personality of the client. While confined to the historical structure of the Fine Arts Building in the South Loop of Chicago, the Thurber Art Galleries designed by Wright in 1909 proved to be a modern design with form and function. Although nonextant, the galleries were distinguished by their built-in furniture, portfolio booths, open floor concept, and unity in design.
