Major: English and Secondary Education
Sophomore; College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
Abstract
"The Literary Canon Taught within Schools Should be Multicultural" explores the well-known texts primarily instructed within statutory formal education. The research paper addresses who implements the books within the curriculum, why it is done so, what the canon illuminates about the education system, and how it affects students. The conclusions that are constructed support the implementation of multicultural novels that can appeal to the ever-growing amount of students of color and various ethnicities within America. In an assertive matter, the research paper demonstrates that adding non-Western texts to the literary canon can be an additive action toward displaying proper representation.
